About
Program Overview
Emergency Services Technology prepares students to apply the technical knowledge and skills required to perform entry-level duties as a police officer, firefighter, paramedic, and other safety services. This program stresses the techniques, methods, and procedures particular to the areas of criminal justice and fire protection, especially in emergency and disaster situations. Physical development and self-confidence skills physics, students receive training in social and psychological skills, map reading, vehicle and equipment operations, the judicial system, pre-hospital emergency medical care, and appropriate emergency assessment, treatment, and communication.
Work Based Learning
It is a privilege for students to partake in the School-to-Career Program. Students are not required to participate; therefore, they can be removed at any time. Due to strenuous liability and accountability issues, under no uncertain terms can this privilege be abused. These experiences are an integral part of the school’s curriculum, and participation will reflect directly on the student’s academic standing. Typically, students must receive a “C” or better and have a good attendance and discipline record. Please see the School to Career Office for more information on a variety of work-based experiences for students, including Cooperative Education, Internships, Job Placements, and School-to-Career transition programs.
Junior and Senior students are eligible to participate in the School-to-Career program after completing a pre-evaluation form.
Additional Requirements (Seniors) – Seniors must complete a minimum of 75% of their task list, maintain a C Final Average in all classes, have zero discipline referrals for Senior year, and less than 10 combined Unexcused Absences and Tardies.
Additional Requirements (Juniors)- Juniors experiences are available after the second marking period. Juniors must complete a minimum of 60% of their task list Maintain a C Final Average in all classes, have zero discipline referrals for Junior year, and less than 10 combined Unexcused Absences and Tardies.
Technical Program Participation During Work-Based Learning- Students are required to check in with their Technical Instructor during the academic rotation and sign in. All students are required to be in for the NOCTI Exam and pre-determined NOCTI Prep days. (Additional options: Students are required to come in one day per rotation. Students are required to stay each morning for theory and will be dismissed for COOP.)

Quick Bio:
Christopher Jackson is a proud alumnus of Bucks County Technical High School, Class of 2002. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps in Security Forces, gaining valuable experience in discipline, leadership, and security operations. Following his military service, Chris dedicated 15 years to a successful career in law enforcement, where he built a reputation for professionalism, integrity, and commitment to public safety. In addition to his work in emergency services education, Chris coaches football at Carl Sandburg Middle School, where he mentors student-athletes both on and off the field.

Dress Code/Uniform Requirements
A full regulation uniform is defined as follows:
- Emergency Services t-shirt or sweatshirt purchased from our online school store.
- The Emergency Services sweatshirt will be the only approved hooded sweatshirt that may be worn by students. Students will have the option of purchasing a “job shirt” beginning in their sophomore year.
- Black or Midnight navy blue trousers (Dickie style work pants or BDU style pants) JEANS OR “JEGGINGS” OR ANY OTHER TYPE OF FORM FITTING PANTS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
- Black Garrison (trouser) belt (1 1/2" - 1 3/4" width, plain or basket weave finish). NO ORNAMENTAL DESIGNS ARE PERMITTED ON THE BELT.
- Black leather duty boots. Boots must be made of leather that can be polished. Boots must have black laces. Suede boots are NOT permitted.
- If ankles are visible, blue or black socks must be worn.
- Blue or black shorts/sweats and athletic shoes will be required during each technical rotation for physical activities.
Note: 2-3 uniforms (shirts and trousers) are recommended. Uniform pants may be purchased online at www.galls.com or www.qmuniforms.com

Equipment, Materials, Uniform, Other Requirements
Required Student Supplies, Equipment, Tools:
- Students are required to have a designated folder and notebook for EMS as well as the appropriate classroom supplies (i.e., pens, pencils, notebook paper, etc.)
- Students need to purchase a stethoscope and blood pressure cuff that will be used during medical training starting upon their entrance into the shop.
- Students are required to have a regular standard analog or digital wristwatch for medical training. Smartwatches are unacceptable for certification testing. Failure to have a standard wristwatch for certification testing will result in the student candidate being disqualified.
- All students must be in the full regulation uniform every day of the technical rotation.
Textbooks and Learning Management Systems
Textbooks and assignments will be accessed through Google Classroom and delivered by the instructor. Student grading will be completed in Skyward and Program Task Tracking will be completed in CTE360.
Students are required to purchase the following text materials:
- SOPHOMORE YEAR Emergency Medical Responder textbook, Brady 11th Ed., textbook, software access, and certification card (Approximate cost is $150.00)
- JUNIOR YEAR EMT textbook/software bundle, Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured, 12th Ed., by Jones and Bartlett Learning (Approximate cost is $300.00)
- SENIOR YEAR Essentials of Firefighting textbook and workbook, 7th Ed., Brady Publishing (Approximate cost $120.00)
**NOTE** The course textbooks will be purchased by the school directly from the publisher at a discounted rate. Students will be given their textbooks on the first day of school. Students will have an obligation on file for the cost of the textbooks and related software. Students are not permitted to share textbooks. Students must pay for the textbooks regardless of whether or not they wish to obtain certification as the topics are required curriculum for the program of study
