Cosmetology (CIP: 12.0401)
About
Program Overview
The Pennsylvania State Board of Cosmetology requires 1250 hours of training for operators, and cosmetology students receive much more than just the minimal requirements for licensing. Classroom and salon work provides in-depth training in all hair, skin, and nail techniques. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will be adequately prepared to take the State Board theory examination for licensure.
Work Based Learning
It is a privilege for students to partake in the School-to-Career Program. Students are not required to participate; therefore, they can be removed at any time. Due to strenuous liability and accountability issues, under no uncertain terms can this privilege be abused. These experiences are an integral part of the school’s curriculum, and participation will reflect directly on the student’s academic standing. Typically, students must receive a “C” or better and have a good attendance and discipline record. Please see the School to Career Office for more information on a variety of work-based experiences for students, including Cooperative Education, Internships, Job Placements, and School-to-Career transition programs.
Cosmetology students who have completed their 1250 Cosmetology hours and passed their state licensing examination are eligible to participate in the School-to-Career program after completing a pre-evaluation form.
Additional Requirements– Seniors must complete a minimum of 75% of their task list, maintain a C Final Average in all classes, have zero discipline referrals for Senior year, and less than 10 combined Unexcused Absences and Tardies.
Technical Program Participation During Work-Based Learning- Students are required to check in with their Technical Instructor during the academic rotation and sign in. All students are required to be in for the NOCTI Exam and pre-determined NOCTI Prep days.
Grading Procedures for Work-Based Learning: Students will be graded by employer evaluation only.Articulations Agreements

Quick Bio:
I’ve been a proud member of the BCTHS staff for 19 years. As a 1997 graduate of BCTHS, back when it was solely a technical school, I feel deeply connected to its mission and values.
My favorite aspect of Cosmetology is helping people feel more confident and better about themselves. I’m passionate about teaching this field because it provides students with a career path that offers both flexibility and unlimited earning potential—empowering them to succeed right out of high school.
Outside of work, I’m incredibly blessed with a supportive husband, two accomplished children, and three beautiful granddaughters.
