About
Program Overview
This college-level cluster program provides a sequence of secondary technical core and academic courses in a program of study. Students will learn to apply knowledge and skills in a variety of healthcare settings. The competencies outlined to cover the specific areas of instruction for the program. Clinical education is an integral part of the program. Science and math courses taught by certified teachers will be coordinated and deemed essential for students to successfully reach their career objectives and post-secondary education.
The ideal healthcare worker for any Allied Health career should possess the following traits as identified in the PA Career Guide: Attention to detail, excellent oral and written communication, emotional stability and maturity, computer skills and critical thinking. Math and science skills are important in most allied health occupations. A passion for the profession and caring for people is important
Work Based Learning
It is a privilege for students to partake in the School-to-Career Program. Students are not required to participate; therefore, they can be removed at any time. Due to strenuous liability and accountability issues, under no uncertain terms can this privilege be abused. These experiences are an integral part of the school’s curriculum, and participation will reflect directly on the student’s academic standing. Typically, students must receive a “C” or better and have a good attendance and discipline record. Please see the School to Career Office for more information on a variety of work-based experiences for students, including Cooperative Education, Internships, Job Placements, and School-to-Career transition programs.
Senior students are eligible to participate in the School-to-Career program after completing a pre-evaluation form and their National Nurse Aide certification.
Additional Requirements (Seniors) – Seniors must complete a minimum of 75% of their task list, maintain a C Final Average in all classes, have zero discipline referrals for Senior year, and less than 10 combined Unexcused Absences and Tardies.
Additional Requirements (Juniors)- Juniors experiences are available after the second marking period. Juniors must complete a minimum of 60% of their task list Maintain a C Final Average in all classes, have zero discipline referrals for Junior year, and less than 10 combined Unexcused Absences and Tardies to be considered for an internship during one technical rotation.
Technical Program Participation During Work-Based Learning- All students are required to be in for the NOCTI Exam and predetermined NOCTI Prep days.
Grading Procedures for Work-Based Learning: Students will be graded by averaging the Employer Evaluation and required classwork. (Additional options: Employer evaluation only. Required assignments only.)

Quick Bio:
Ms. Sabara joined the BCTHS team in 2014, where she serves as the Nurse Aide Program Coordinator and Senior Allied Health teacher. She began her nursing career after graduating from the Frankford Hospital School of Nursing and earning an Associate degree from Penn State University. She later completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Ohio University.
Ms. Sabara's clinical background is rooted in critical care, with extensive experience in ICU/CCU, PACU, and Interventional Radiology. In addition to her nursing credentials, she holds both Vocational Education I and II certifications in Career and Technical Education from Temple University.

Quick Bio:
Mrs. Shelly joined BCTHS in 2019. She went to Manor College where se received her Associate's degree in Science then transferred to Thomas Jefferson University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Mrs. Shelly has worked in long term care and has spent the last 25 years in critical care, most recently in the post anesthesia care unit. She is currently furthering her education at Temple University.

Quick Bio:
In 2024, Ms. Kehan joined BCTHS to lead the junior curriculum. She began her nursing journey at the Frankford Hospital School of Nursing, continued by studies at Penn State University, and later earned her BSN from Immaculata University. She is currently furthering her education at Temple University. She brings a wide range of nursing experience to the BCTHS classroom, from long-term care to critical care, as well as many years in the Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. She is excited to share her knowledge and real-world experiences with her students.

Dress Code/Uniform Requirements
Students enrolled in the Allied Health program must understand and agree to abide by the Allied Health dress code while in this program. Failure to comply with any aspect of the dress code will result in a 50-point deduction from the daily grade for each offense. Students recognize that they will be inspected any time of the day, therefore, they will comply with the uniform rules at all times.
All students will report to class, in full regulation uniform, on the first day of school.
All freshmen will follow the Allied Health freshmen dress code as outlined below. Failure to comply with these rules will result in a 50% reduction from the student’s daily grade for each violation.
- Technical Program Shirt
- Wear school-appropriate clothing that covers the belly. May wear sneakers or work boots. No open-toe, flip flops or slides permitted
- No bars or gauges of any kind or size in the ear are permitted.
- No facial or tongue piercings or plugs are permitted with the exception of ONE small stud nose piercing. No hoops or bars are permitted.
- Keep nails at an appropriate length. No acrylic nails or press on nails
- Do not chew gum.
- Bring your charged Chromebook and all other necessities (pens, pencils, paper, etc.) to class every day.
- NO SMART WATCHES ARE PERMITTED.
- Come to class with all assignments/homework that is due.
- Wear my ID badge at all times. No phone IDs will be accepted.
Beginning Sophomore Year:
- You must wear your regulation uniform each day, which consists only of scrub tops that cover my waist and solid color scrub pants that are waist high. Jogger scrub pants and capri pants are not permitted.
- Uniforms cannot be tight and pants must reach the level of the shoe, covering the entire leg. This includes purchasing new uniforms when appropriate.
- Uniforms must fit appropriately with room to bend and move around while still covering the skin.
- Keep my uniform clean, without wrinkles, rips or tears and purchase a new uniform, if necessary. NO pinning, stapling or taping of the ripped uniform.
- Keep hems of pant legs from dragging on the ground.
- Wear my ID badge at all times. No phone IDs will be accepted.
- No visible, inappropriate marks (hickies) on the neck. Must be covered with a turtleneck. First, a warning will be given with daily points taken. Second occurrence will result in a discipline write-up for uniform violation.
- Keep my hairstyle professional; maintaining natural colors.
- All hair must be pulled back and secured. Nothing over the shoulder or dangling around the face is permitted. Use hairpins if necessary.
- Wear a slip-on healthcare provider shoe only. No sneakers or shoes that tie are permitted.
- Keep my shoes clean.
- Keep my nails clean with no visible dirt under the nail bed.
- No chipped nail polish is permitted.
- No artificial nails at any time during the technical rotation are permitted.
- Nails need to be kept at an appropriate length of 1/8”
- Applying make up or false eye lashes while in shop is prohibited.
- Only have two post earrings in each ear, lobes or auricles.
- No bars or gauges of any kind or size in the ear are permitted.
- No facial or tongue piercings or plugs are permitted with the exception of ONE small stud nose piercing. No hoops or bars are permitted.
- Bracelets, necklaces and chains, including rubberized bands/hair ties are not permitted.
- Wear only one ring on each hand.
- No gum chewing is permitted.
- All students are required to purchase workbooks within the first rotation.

Textbooks and Learning Management Systems
Textbooks and assignments will be accessed through google classroom and delivered by the instructor. Student grading will be completed in Skyward and Program Task Tracking will be completed in CTE360. The textbooks used in this program are:
