Global Studies is the required course for all Freshmen at Bucks County Technical High School. It is designed to improve the students' knowledge of the world we live in and focuses heavily on five major areas.
The first unit focuses on World Geography. Students learn about the physical, political and human geography of the Earth and pay particular attention to how our geography affects how we live and why some areas are wealthier than others.
The next unit is Expansion and Imperialism. This unit will look back at the last 300 years or so and study the expansion of world empires and how this expansion shaped both positive and negative aspects of our modern world.
The third unit is a survey of the world's major religions. The goal of this unit is to help students understand the beliefs and practices of the different world religions and learn their similarities and differences.
The fourth unit focus on global conflict and controversy. The students look into such issues as conflicts around the world, global economics, health and disease, human rights, environmental concerns, and others.
The final unit of the year will focus on global cooperation as a way of demonstrating how people and nations around the world are working together to make the world a better place.
The Academic Global Studies Class is for students who may be thinking about either going directly into the world of work after BCTHS or going on to some kind of higher education - either trade school or college.
