Facilities Support Services is a technical program that introduces students to a variety of custodial, building maintenance, landscaping, and warehousing distribution and inventory tasks that serve to support a facility. Students refine skills such as safety compliance, basic tool use, social skills, cleaning practices, soft skills, deliveries, professionalism, and many others. We also perform tasks around the school by taking job requests from teachers, the maintenance department, and even administrators. Previous jobs include package deliveries, assembly of chairs and book shelves, furniture moving, event setup/takedown, hanging items on walls, and equipment repair.
Facilities Support Services also uses CBI, or Community-Based Instruction, as an instructional strategy where students venture out into the community and perform services such as landscaping, sanitation, and cleaning. Students develop a connection to the community, while learning and practicing skills in a structured weekly schedule. We help the community by volunteering our time and effort, while the students receive real-world experience while developing relationships locally.
Facilities Support Services offers students a chance to build a foundational skill set that can be used to retain employment, develop independence, and boost confidence in their abilities.
