The Baking & Pastry Arts curriculum provides theoretical and practical knowledge for students to become professional bakers, cake decorators, or bakery managers. Students will learn necessary food technology, study preparation of loaves of bread, sweet goods, and decorating in classroom and laboratory. Students learn procurement, costing, pricing, and other elements of retail marketing and management. Graduates can find employment in bakeries, restaurants, and institutions or go on to college studies in food technology or as a pastry chef.
Certifications available to the successful Baking & Pastry Arts student include:
- Heartsaver AED, CPR & First Aid
- OSHA Certification
- Pennsylvania Food Employee Certification (ServSafe, etc.).

Students in the Baking & Pastry Arts Program can EARN COLLEGE CREDITS!
Students can earn up to 9 credits in the Hospitality Tourism Management (Curriculum Code 2022) and Chef Apprenticeship (Curriculum Code 2056 or 2098) degree programs at Bucks County Community College. Competencies achieved in the Baking & Pastry Arts program at BCTHS are deemed potentially equivalent to the following Bucks County Community College courses:
A. HRIM120 - Basic Food Preparation & Management (3 credits)
B. HRIM121 - Advanced Food Preparation & Management (3 credits)
C. HRIM130 - Baking & Decorating - Techniques & Procedures (3 credits)
