Students study principles of composition, properties of art materials, and the fundamentals of graphic design. Instruction is then given in page layout, basic illustration, typography, and production operations. Specific design projects are undertaken in packaging and advertising, book illustration, and design using both traditional and computer techniques. Graduates can take entry-level jobs in art studios, publishing houses, advertising agencies or go on to a college degree in fine arts, design or advertising.

Students can earn up to 9 credits in the Graphic Design (curriculum code 1110) and Multimedia (curriculum code 1175) degree programs and Web Design and Multimedia (curriculum code 3147) certificate program at Bucks County Community College. Competencies achieved in the Commercial Art program at BCTHS are deemed potentially equivalent to the following Bucks County Community College courses:
VAFA160-Introduction to Printmaking OR VAFA161-Printmaking/Silkscreen (3 credits)
VAMM100-Digital Imaging (3 credits)
VAGD999-Graphic Design & Illustration elective (3credits)
